Character Day was started in 2014 by Tiffany Shlain, of Let It Ripple. In 2018 over 200,000 participated, including 15,000 schools and over 2 million people! In 2017 there were over 133,000 events in 150 countries. In 2015 6,784 groups participated from 70 countries. In its first year in 2014 it attracted over 1,500 schools in 32 countries.

Formed in 1992, the Virtues Project.com, founded by Linda Kavelin, Dan Popov, and John Kavelin, developed five strategies to bring virtues to life, from birth to death. The five strategies are: 1) Speak the Language of the Virtues; 2) Recognize Teachable Moments; 3) Set Clear Boundaries; 4) Honor the Spirit and 5) Offer Companioning. Virtues Matter.org was started by two people who want to create a better world together. Dara and Dave Feldman, a wife-husband team, both envisioned a more connected, uplifted future in business, education, and beyond.
